Why we are collecting?
Many of you may have heard that several in Carroll county have partnered with Compassion Campers to help victims of Hurricane Helene who have lost everything. With winter here, the people affected by the hurricane can no longer live in tents.
Compassion Campers is taking donations of campers and matching them with families who have lost everything. These campers will belong to them to live in as long as needed.
Through the donations of many Carroll county area individuals, campers have been/are being purchased and sent down to families in need. Our church was asked to help furnish the campers with blankets, towels, and household goods.
What's Collected?
NOTE: For ease of transport, new items in their original packaging are preferred. Very gently used items that are boxed well will also be accepted.
For each camper, we try to send one sheet set, one blanket, one comforter, and one pillow per bed. The campers usually have 2-6 beds, so the bedding need can add up quick! We add a couple of throw size blankets as extra.
We also try to send
- a set of pots & pans
- a crock pot
- 6-8 plastic plates
- 6-8 plastic bowls
- silverware for 6-8
- 6-8 cups.
- 8 bath towels
- 8 wash cloths
- kitchen towels
- kitchen dish cloths
- a small laundry basket
- a small bucket for cleaning
- paper towels
- tissues
- dish soap
- disinfectant wipes
- cleaning supplies
- personal items (such as toothbrushes/paste, razors, shampoo/conditioner, etc.)
Dream items that we also try to have for every camper:
- 25-50 ft. heated RV water hose (new only--see link below)
- RV surge protector (new only--see link below)
- 2 coil electric 1800W hot plate (new only--see link below)
- a small portable space heater (new only)
- small hand mixer (new only)
.
Where to bring items?
All items can be brought to the church office Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4PM or during any church service time. Place items in the shopping cart in the lobby.
Can I send supplies directly to Compassion Campers?
Yes! Compassion Campers currently has an Amazon wishlist with very specific items on it. The items will ship to their Pennsylvania headquarters and be taken down to those in need.
Due to the cold temperatures, some donated campers are having trouble with freezing water hoses and electric surges. Heated water hoses & surge protectors for RVs are desperately needed! Below are Amazon items that can be purchased and sent directly to Tennessee. After adding any of these items, be sure to change the shipping address of these items to:
Sharee Perciful-Compassion Campers
610 Carolina Avenue
Erwin, Tennessee 37650
Can I make monetary donations to help purchase more campers?
YES! YES! YES! This is a desperate need! Celia's friend Rachel is working with area camper & RV dealers and she gotten amazing deals on campers to send down! But campers cannot be purchased without the funds to do so! Rachel will continue to buy campers/supplies until the money runs out. If everyone could just donate $5 here or $20 or $100 there, together we can purchase a home (camper) for families who lost everything!
If you want to add to the fund to help purchase more campers, you can do that by going to any Consumer's Bank or you can use Go Fund Me. (Go Fund Me will deduct 2.9% of your donation for their service fee.) Info on both is below.
(If you want to write a check & take to any Consumer's Bank, it can be made out to CAMPERS FOR WNC FLOOD VICTIMS.)
